Probabilities in roulette

As mentioned before, the setup in roulette is from the number 1 up to 36. This means that, on average, each number will be hit in 1 out of 36 attempts. Because every time a certain number comes, this number, according to the statistics, should not be hit for the next 35 spins.

Therefore, you can say that the probability of hitting a certain number is 35-to-1, which is also the exact payout if you hit a certain number. If, on the other hand, you play a combination of 2 numbers, the payout here will be 17-to-1. If you play a combination of 4 numbers, then the payout will be 8-to-1.

If you hit one of the 3 columns, it will give 2-to-1. If you hit black or red then it will pay even money as this is a 50/50 bet. So far so good – the truth is though that these probabilities are not 100% correct as we have not included the green 0 (and 00 in American roulette).

It is at this green field that the casino has an advantage over the player. It is because of the green fields that the probability of hitting a certain number is in reality 37-to-1, and therefore not 35-to-1 as we have just written.

Gambling options in roulette: the only game where you are spoiled for choice!

Gambling options in roulette

In many casino games, there are different game options that have different payouts. These refunds are usually based on how much you play and are willing to invest.

In craps, a specific bet can e.g. have a house edge of approx. 2%, where other bets have a house edge of more than 10% – the trick is that you always have to read the rules of the game, so you will be able to plan your game tactics. That way, you can also decide whether your chosen game is worth spending time and energy on.

In contrast to many other casino games, the casino’s advantage is always the same, no matter what bet you make. However, it is important to remember that this does not mean that the probabilities of winning are the same for all bets – keep this in mind when learning how to play roulette.

If you bet on black, you will almost always win approx. 50% of the time (the green zero field is why it’s not exactly 50%). If, on the contrary, you bet on a specific number, then you will win only 1 time out of 37 or 38, depending on whether you play European or American roulette.

Bets with high odds will give a higher payout, but in the end, the result will be the same no matter where you place your bets.

So what betting options do you have in roulette? In the list below you can see the probabilities of winning on both European and American roulette. You will also be able to see the real payout that you will get on the bets. As you can see, the real odds on the European version are always closer to the actual payout because there is only one zero field on the European version.
